WOODEN COMPOSITIONS
DIGITAL WORKFLOW | STUDIO 5 | EXCHANGE | DENMARK | 2024
In this workshop, we explored the architectural and structural possibilities for the reuse of wood. The starting point was wooden components produced in a previous workshop at the architecture school. In this way, we simulated a situation where materials previously used in a building need to be reused. Oak wood has significant potential in construction. Oak wood is strong, withstands outdoor weather conditions, and is highly resistant to fungi and insects.
Based on the oak wood components, we developed structural principles, where the components are adapted using CNC milling. The intention was to minimize processing to reuse as much material as possible, and limit time and energy consumption for processing. The construction principles were developed through sketching in drawing and model form, as well as physical prototypes in full scale. This meant testing how the new components could be produced from the existing ones. At the same time, the parametric model was developed to examine how the components, in large quantities (at least 50), which could be integrated into an architectural whole. Thus, an architectural design of a pavilion was developed offering accommodation at the North Side Festival.
